There are many ways to find music from LicenseQuote powered stores. You can search by brands, (e.g. artist/composer names) catalogs, genres, subgenres, tags and various track description keywords which includes the song/track title and any portions of the file names. Of course one of the easiest and most popular ways to find music to preview is by Genres.
How the music genres are defined
Publishers using LicenseQuote define and assign their own music genres and subgenres (when needed) to all their tracks and songs. This gives them the chance to be as creative and customized as needed to organize and present their music for easy searching by their clients. We believe this is better than trying to get publishers and catalogs to “pigeonhole” their songs into a narrow set of static, pre-defined genres.
Genres need to be as fluid and dynamic as changing markets, which doesn’t prevent use of common standards such as classical, pop, rock, country and folk, while encouraging new categories of music which can be more sharply distinguised, often without need of using further subgenres, though they can still be optionally used, and sometimes to great advantage with older, established genres.
LicenseQuote global store statistics
These to-date statistics are from among all publishers with currently active LicenseQuote powered stores:
Publishers – 80 (some publishers may temporarily opt-out of the Global Search)
Brands – 431 (includes various artist, composer and catalog brands)
Genres – 276
Subgenres – 3.3 (per average genre)
Tags – 4.5 (per average track)
Total Tracks – 8,617 (fluctuates daily)
Most genres are narrow, while a few may be a bit too broad
Below is a list of the current Genres. I’ll point out a few which may be too general for our (new) global stores search feature, which otherwise make more sense within a given publisher’s store.
Examples:
Cues – Any song/track can be used as a “cue” for any kind of media or synchornization project, so this is a bit too generic.
Film & Tv – because nearly any song or soundtrack could be used for this medium if properly placed with the right story or theme.
International – we have many publishers from different countries, so international is a bit broad, as a better description would be a specific country or regional area.
MP3 or MP3’s – Any track in a catalog could be delivered in a digital MP3 format, hence, much too broad to help a buyer distinguish what kind of music this would be. As a tip to the publishers, it would be better to use “MP3” as a Tag to identify specific tracks which are only be available in MP3 format.
You may find a few more, but keep in mind that if a Genre doesn’t make sense from the global search, it might make more sense from within a specific brand or catalog. Then you can also compare with the available subgenres, or simply use the Search keywords filter to find other important aspects of the song’s description.
Introduction to master list of genres
Below is a current list of genres across all active publisher’s stores as listed on our new global stores search feature. This (testing) page location may change, so we’ll update accordingly.
If you are a music publisher, please feel free to compare your own Genres with others that are similar, as you may be able to edit your genre to fit into a more appropriate or similar category. As a music supervisor or licensing buyer, you will enjoy the wide variety of available genres which exist to help you quickly narrow down your search for your project’s music needs.

Categories of genres will help because there are so many different kinds of music out there today. Genres are excellent ways to find what you’re looking for whether it be movies or music. As a musician myself, I can appreciate this.
Great job guys! Very good, you are helping the world’s evolution.
Thank You very much!
